Overview

Drawing on more than three decades of experience working in the area of crisis and disaster risk management, SCS works with governments, sectors, organisations and communities to improve their level of resilience to the sorts of crises and emergency events we are seeing and experiencing in the modern world.

This is not just about learning how to survive such events, but about learning how to thrive in a world that is constantly changing.

It is about having good situational awareness (what is happening now) and intelligence (what could happen in the future) and the ability to make timely and effective decisions before, during and after such events to minimise the likelihood and/or impact of such events and make the most of potential opportunities.

Given the amount of change that is happening in the world today, resilience is about learning how to include crisis and disaster risk management practices in everyday behaviour so as to be able to adapt well to change, to overcome adversity when things happen, and to recover quickly and effectively afterwards so as to reduce the risk of similar things happening again in the future.

At SCS, we help our clients develop this level of agility by offering a range of strategic and operational services that improve their level of resilience in the short-, medium- and long-term with the capabilities and resources that are available to them.

The two types of services we offer are:

  • Crisis and Disaster Risk Management Services; and

  • Change and Transformation Services

Crisis and Disaster Risk Management

In the area of Crisis and Disaster Risk Management, the range of services we offer covers:

  • hazard identification and risk assessment;

  • risk reduction, readiness, response and recovery advice;

  • crisis and emergency management training and capability building; and

  • business continuity capability building and advice.

It includes:

  • policy development and assurance;

  • national, regional, local and community reviews and advice;

  • training exercises and individual coaching; and

  • post event reviews and advice.

Change and Transformation Services

‍To help our clients change the way they function, we offer both Change Services – doing things differently, such as improving, updating or modifying a process, behaviour or system to achieve a specific goal, which is usually reactive, in response to an external trigger - and Transformation Services – doing something deeper which usually requires a paradigm shift and a disruption of the status quo. Transformation Services are usually proactive and visionary in nature and are often personal and cultural i.e. re-building the foundations of how things are currently done.

‍The fundamental distinctions between these two types of services lie in their scope, execution and permanency. While every successful transformation requires a series of smaller aligned changes, clients may use Change Services to improve day-to-day operations in the short term and Transformation Services to re-define and realise their long-term vision of what success looks like going forward.

‍This being the case, in the area of change and transformation, our services include:

  • ‍strategy development and execution;

  • ‍operating model design and implementation;

  • McKinsey 7S* audits to assess and improve our client’s ability to achieve their long-term goals;

  • project, programme and portfolio management; and

  • ‍change management.

Collaborative Approach

To ensure our services meet the needs of our customers, when we engage with clients we:

  • listen to and work collaboratively with our clients to understand their needs and individual circumstances;

  • tailor our services to meet their unique requirements;

  • provide advice and solutions that are practical and easy to apply; and

  • work with our clients to bring about the changes that are required to deliver the improvements they are seeking.
